Scope note: This tracker covers NHS England only. Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland have separate NHS systems with different governance. The privatisation timeline covers legislative and policy changes that affected NHS England's commissioning framework. "Privatisation" here refers to the increasing share of NHS-funded care delivered by independent sector (private and voluntary) providers — not the abolition of free-at-point-of-use care.
